Look, a war with North Korea wouldn't be pretty for anyone, but there's no way NK wins, even if they fight to the last man. If they even so much as attack Seoul, or Tokyo, let alone the west coast of the US, they would be invaded on all sides by SK, the US, and China, who would reluctantly invade while acknowledging they're out of options.

There is no reason to go to war with NK. Keep them isolated and starved. People are already fleeing the country en masse for China and SK. Even soldiers are starting to defect. They have been able to keep the outside world away from their citizens for a long time, but the digital age has changed that and the average NK citizen is at least aware the world beyond their borders isn't entirely as it's been sold to them. Give it time and the regime will fall.

I'm much more worried about the one-party system in a rising economic and nuclear power like China, or the growth of radical Islam in Indonesia than I am about NK popping off a nuke.

There are all sorts of machinations and power plays going on behind the scenes of the North Korean government that even top intelligence agencies are likely not privy to.
