Communists were ramping for an invasion from Manchuria, which would've led to said millions and likely another two state partition like in Germany and Korea.
Couple that with the grueling death toll a full scale invasion would've endured and the I!mediate deaths of two atom bombs in comparison would've likely paled in comparison. Hypothetical of course but its a matter of history and this in all likelihood would've been much more an atrocity.

I think the only reason this isn't argued is simply because it didn't happen but the Soviets had clear plans to do so and the u.s. military had algorithms and statistics to assume a semi accurate death toll.
Ultimately what was best for Japan was a u.s. occupation and if anything our occupation was one of the lightest forms of imperialism practiced to date, we did very little to involve ourselves in their culture, religion, or politics and simply kept them aligned.
Less could be said of the Soviets for certain.

It was to save the millions of lives of US soldiers that were projected to be lost in a land invasion of Japan, who had created a policy of 'fight to the death against all invaders' and had instilled it in their citizens.

The nukes were justified. The only reason Jews complain about us using the nukes is because they didn't get as many dead American soldiers as they wanted (so it didn't weaken the US & Japan as much as they would have hoped and didn't get as many sacrifices for their Satanic blood war rituals).

A nation has a responsibility to protect the lives of its citizens over the lives it's enemies citizens. The death of a soldier doesn't become any more acceptable, or his life worth less just because you conscripted him and stuck a gun in his hand. I would dropped the bomb and killed 150,000 Japanese citizens if it meant saving the life of one American citizen, and in fact it saved the lives of millions.

The Japanese could have surrendered after the first bomb, but they held so little regard for there citizens they kept fighting, and wanted to keep fighting even after the second, only the emporer stopped it.

On a personal note, my pappy was an infantryman on a troop transport ship tasked to take part in the invasion. He knew he was going to die, and that the bomb saved his life and my family.
