The Mongol Empire broke up into a bunch of smaller, yet still very powerful empires, because the descendants of The Great Khan all wanted their piece of the pie. One of the partitions was China and the Mongol dynasty there became Chinese in character and eventually overthrown. In central Asia, the land was ruled by the Chagatai Khanate. In the west of Asia and East of Europe ruled the Khanate of the Golden Horde.

Eventually European expansion BTFO the Golden Horde.

I find it hilarious how tsundere Finns are about "being Mongol". They will openly claim they are the whitest of the white if you ever call them Mongoloids, but secretly they feel great pride from the fact that people associate them with Mongols.

It's hilarious for two reasons. The first one is the fact that they aren't related to Mongols, at all. They are just natives of northern Eurasia, with a strong affiliation to the Ural mountains, and probably somewhat chinky originally, before they mixed with native Europeans (probably Germanics) in Finland. The second one is the fact that there's no pride to be taken from being Mongol. They are the cockroaches of the human species. Like Turkic tribes, they have never contributed anything to human advancement and have only ever brought death, destruction and disease. The dirtiest and most useless of all humans.
