Anyone have any information regarding Chinese culture before the Cultural Revolution?
There are the Four Olds, which Communists sought to eliminate: Custom, Culture, Habits, Ideas. This include ancient artifacts, ancient buildings, and even the elderly, as they embodied counter revolutionary, "reactionary" ideas.

The state in China has always been wealthy the people never have been.
Best way to learn about their customs is to befriend some people from your local china town. I lived by the Oakland one for two summers, I gotta good understanding about I think, I fear the rise of china as a result.

It's theorized China went into a weimar-like situation (high level equilibrium trap) in the 1700s and fell from the world stage
