my perspective is that of an outsider, but I believe that this move wlll actually weaken the Maori language and culture by disentangling the learning and passing down of the language from the genetic and cultural community it is born from. The Maori should want to keep their language within their own domain so as to control and retain the cultural characteristics they desire- with this development the language will no longer be unique to their group and in the process both will be diminished.
