There's interesting thing that by september, nobody was interested in Iowa and Ohio anymore, hinting that democrats were perfectly sure that they will lose those, despite media signaling close race.

Another aspect that is never brought up is that the DNC spent ALL on her - the other candidates across the country got no help from the party at all, and the "headquearters", ie. Hillary's people, would refuse to talk to the lower ranks, period. They would send orders out, but lower ranks were not allowed to talk to DC. I think that the debates probably helped him overall a fair bit as far as the audience who watched all 3 goes. The first two were blatantly tipped in Clinton's favour and she still came off as awkward and uncomfortable while Trump was under siege from the start but managed to hold his own firmly.
