I think it's only good to use only when needed for maximum benefit of the drug. Recreational use is degenerate, your body gets used to it or builds a resistance and no longer has any benefits.

We feel pleasures because we do things that are useful to us. That's how pleasure came to be, people who enjoy doing things that help them do more things that help them and pass on the trait. Drugs grant pleasure without use, it makes you less likely to seek it from proper avenues.

I take prescription Adderall. It helps me not be a mouth breather.

This is good rule of thumb. The effects of drugs should never be an end, but a means and even then they should be used sparingly when no other alternative is viable.

I smoke weed for my scoliosis. It helps with the pain and tension. No other drugs not even alcohol.
