Here's what annoys me most about modern leftists: when criticizing more tight immigration policies, such as Trump's, they will use "American values", words of the Founding Fathers, or other appeals to patriotism as a rebuttal. They are implying that extremely loose immigration is hardwired into the USA's value system, and that having tight immigration is going against what the very country stands for.
This is so incorrect, that it's almost offensive. The USA has actually had extremely tight immigration standards until 1965. When liberals praise what "makes America great", they are actually praising the nation that is the result of measured immigration controls. We have not yet lived in a nation that is about the total openness they are demanding.
Also: "America is a nation of immigrants". Perhaps the single most annoying, Orwellian phrase in modern politics. Are they seriously implying that the European settlers are comparable to modern immigrants? It's not like the European settlers lived in Native American towns, lived under their laws or used their healthcare.

What? I'm complaining about an extremely contemporary topic and one of grave seriousness; how they misunderstand history and language to build support for their narrative.
