FATHER Peter Manuel supports same-sex marriage, not because he is forward thinking — in fact, he’s quite old-fashioned.
“I’m very conservative,” the rector of the Anglican parish of Subiaco said.
“I believe that marriage is a stable form of relationship and I’m thrilled that same-sex-attracted people really want the stability that marriage symbolises.
“In our society things that build up relationships and commitment are good things. In the face of a world where people fight each other and divorce is very easy and all the other things, this is a symbol of hope.”
Father Manuel holds a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and intersex- friendly communion service every Sunday evening that attracts 20 to 30 people.
He is not yet able to marry a same-sex couple in the same way he can a heterosexual couple, but said he has blessed same-sex unions.
