Yes, throughout middle school we have to take several courses on Latin American history and social studies.

However, most of the material given is very standard. We are taught both sides of the story too, the European and the Native. Since MOST of out teachers went to public university, they are a little biased towards muh poor injuns, but it's really not too bad.

If anything going through said courses taught me how BASED the conquistadors were. Before they arrived most tribes hated each other with passion. The conquistadors used tribal feuds to ally with certain tribes and attack the rest. How a little group of Europeans with little to no resources managed to conquer a completely new landmass using cunning and military tactics still blows my mind.
