His name was George Henry Thomas, and he basically did everything. By himself. The reason everyone focuses on the war in the East is because the West was a complete Northern steam roll, because George Henry Thomas was a fucking bad ass. The only General to never lose a battle during the war. He declined two promotions he didn't believe he deserved. Before the war he was Robert E. Lee's closest friend, Lee's Protege, and a fellow Virginian who made the decision to stay with the North. The other Northerner's didn't trust him for half of the war until he proved himself beyond doubt. He also won the most one-sided battle in the Civil War (50K:100 k/d ratio). And, earlier, became the "Rock of Chickamauga" because his boss fucked up, the army around him was in total route, and Thomas said "Fuck this, you pussy's. Turn and fight." And his troops did. And the other troops who were running for their lives said "Well, fuck, if George Henry fucking Thomas says to fight, we'll fight." And they won the second bloodiest battle of the civil war (after Gettysburg).

History has forgotten him because Grant, Sherman, and others (Schofield) had to tear him down to make their own legacies not look like shit compared to his. Also, he was a fat fuck and died of a heart attack shortly after the war. Also, he burned all of his records and letters, and so did his wife and his estranged sisters who stayed in the South and never spoke to him again.

Before the war he was a teacher at West Point, where he personally instructed every stand out general on both sides of the war (Except Forest, of course).

Before the Civil War, he was the Artillery officer for the American army that went south and helped Texas against Mexico.
