What is he doing wrong, /pol/? The latest labor force participation rate (LFPR) numbers came out, and they are still near modern historic lows. The LFPR measures the percentage of working-age adults who are employed in some manner.
The issues facing employment are far more structural and widespread in American society than a President can tackle in 5 months.
I personally dont think things will get better. Were on a long ride through collapse.

Trump specifically pledged during his campaign to increase employment, though. He didn't make some vague statement about "doing his best;" he made very specific promises that employment rates would be going UP under his administration. He needs to live up to his own promises.

I'm not a Trump bootlicker. Personally I think the only reason he is still alive is to serve as a scapegoat (and have the right be blamed by association) if/when the Federal Reserve crashes shit.

Once you start giving someone free food, housing, etc. when they are unemployed why would you expect them to start working for the same stuff they were just getting for free?
The people that fall out of the labor force are for the most part the lowest on the skills totem pole. If they re-enter the workforce their wages are probably not much higher than what the welfare system gives them for free, so they don't have the incentive even if the jobs are out there. The problem is too many gibs to people who are capable of supporting themselves if you held their feet to the fire.

A Trade War is guaranteed to increase employment. Which is why it's a smart move for Trump.
