Why is the senate necessary in this millennium?

Serious question guys. What do we need the senate for nowadays? If we need to represent the people, the state can just announce they will be running a poll in www.NationalOpinions.com, and tell all citizens to visit the website.

In order to vote, you require a photo-scan of your ID number, ergo, you can only vote once. And thus, you get the entire nation's opinions on any subject, why do we still need diplomats to represent the people? The people can represent themselves just fine on the internet.

Fuck they could just use facebook. My point is make every citizen that wants to voice his opinion be able to do so, and the state should comply with the will of the people, I mean that's what the state was made for.

Explain to me /pol/ why isn't this done? what flaw am I missing here that the politicians can see? Am I retarded?

The flaw you're missing is that that it'd be incredibly easy to falsify an American ID and IP address. Even were it not, multinational conglomerates would never allow something so removed from their ability to control.

Federal government was a mistake

But the government has all of our IDs already in a database. They know which IDs are of people alive today. They also have our photos.

So what I am missing, is the fact there isn't a perfect way to fact-check who has access to the website? What if the website adds an option of "you already voted for this poll, you cannot vote twice. In case you didn't actually vote click here to disable your vote", and then it allows you to take a picture of yourself to compare it to your ID photo, and then enabling you to vote again. But the vote doesn't add up, it just replaces the existing vote.

Or maybe like in those cellphone scans things work, or how credit cards work. I don't get why people aren't trying to digitalize and simplify politics for the citizens.

I feel like people should represent themselves. Am I wrong in thinking this?

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
