Sooner or later it will I'm sure. It keeps getting proposed each year. It was actually opposed by the NRA on the last one because it still required the gun to be unloaded (2 actions away from firing) when concealed. Concealed carry can have loaded guns, but currently open carry has to have it unloaded. I'm a big proponent of the xiphos. It can thrust, it can slash, it's weighted towards the end. It's similar in design theory to a kukri, the kukri just has that bend in it.

A xiphos, kukri, or smatchet all seem like sound choices to me.

I also think a tomahawk would be a fantastic choice. Very nimble weapon. Not as elegant as a blade though.

The correct answer is obviously a dagger or military knife. Bulkier weapons will paint a target on your back and impede you in day-to-day life. No it isn't. Most modern blades are fully functional. Unless you want to focus on LARPing or embodying some kind of "look", you can buy anything mass produced from one of many manufacturers, like cold steel or something like that. Modern manufacturing means that you can mass produce functional blades with better steel than a master smith could make five hundred years ago. They wont break on you. Obviously some are better and some are worse. But you could probably get something fully functional for just a few hundred bucks.

A 7.62x54R will plow through you and turn your insides into fucking jelly in the vicinity of the wound. A blade will "just" make a clean straight wound. A $20 18" ontario machete can do that for like a forearm if you sharpen and swing it properly. If you're more serious I'd say get a kukri and learn to swing it right, since these are intended for being able to lop a head off and stuff.

But maybe if you just google "convex edge" which is most likely how you'd want to sharpen a big knife that you can whack apart limbs or small trees with then that would lead you to the kind of person who actually does this and could best tell you what you need.

I spent I think like $75 on ebay for a neat golok made in Australia out of repurposed materials in like Thailand or something. Worked surprisingly well once I got good with it, but then one time it slipped out of my hand, got chucked hard on the ground, and bent :(

$20 Ontario machete works almost as good, easy to sharpen up when you notch it to fuck or whatever, and then you can just ditch it if you really mess it up because it's a $20 bog standard machete you can buy at any tourist trap for way too much.

My EDC is SV30, which might not be the best, but offers a useful combination of corrosion resistance, durability, hardness, and isn't a total dick to sharpen back up.

I forget what my main kitchen knife is made of, but it's something similar.
