Yes, the current strategic situation makes Russia and Eastern Europe natural allies. Both share the same threats and have little to gain by fighting each other. The same argument can be made for the US and Russia (or Eastern Europe). Crazier still is that the US and Russia would make perfect allies for Iran and Syria. India and Isreal also fit naturally into this alliance structure.

The greatest threat to all of the above is sunni islam and extreme leftists. With the exception of nuclear proliferation none have logical conflicts of interest.
