I made a thread last night talking about a new tax plan being tossed around called the FAIR tax (pic related). In the chart you see how for the first 10 years there is a 20% consumption tax (the only tax under the proposed system). After 10 years the rate gradually decreases.
An anon asked how USA would be able to maintain it's military might while reducing taxes. I'm not satisfied with the answer I gave. Along with gutting the government of excess and streamlining the functions, we should expect the proper oversight to prevent price gouging (the $5000 hammer example).
To my little brain, that should reign in the cost of maintaining a small government and an amazing military. Any thoughts?

The US will NEVER reduce taxes. At this point our government survives on endless growth. Each department, each man vying for the biggest slice and always more than the year before. The government has become a living entity that views a reduction in taxes the way you would view amputation of a limb.
