Back in da day, the Black Engineers association (student org) at UC Davis hosted/sponsored a chess tournament on campus. I'm happy to report that All blacks were wiped out in the first two rounds. I won the tourney of course (1800 rating at the time) But I would hafta add, soon after that tourney I was arrested on various scurrilous hacking, fraud and carding charges and spent some time in jail. To pass the time I played chess with some of the nogs, being very cocky and arrogant, I figured the jail players would be even worse than the affirmitive action nogs I beat at school. WRONG, some of those jail players are pretty fucking good- I was soundly beaten repeatedly for several dozen games before I figured them out....

I play chess puzzles daily and games with compoter or mates. Serious players devote a lot of time to analysis, I just play a lot of games and try to absorb patterns, it's lazy but you get a good intuitive feel for the game
