Not surprised at all. Real right-wingers were banned from any political or even social activity and were heavily monitored. Plus the orchestrated regime change wasn't for the countries of EE, but to save the regime elites from the consequences of a complete economic and social collapse that was drawing near with the failed central planning Comecon retardness slowly collapsing on itself.
Countries had to choose between abandoning the economic directives and trading with the west and complete regression back to the level of the 20s or the medieval ages. And between going full third world like Romania or getting into massive debt like Hungary.
This is why there were now wars, this is why outside Romania there were no armed conflicts at all. All the comrades started to flee the sinking ships like rats and this is why they turned to aloof and incompetent leaders and moderates to team up with them and enact reforms.
It'll took ages to shift out all the corrupt, incompetent post-communist shit from politics.
