The DDR (German Democratic Republic) was fucked in political regards. The people were Germans like West Germans. Only polish sounding last names are quite common, which makes sense since Germany took huge parts of Poland from where the older generation fled.
But if you really want to look for Nazis in Germany you will find most of them in East Germany.
