Was watching a Red Ice video recently about a passage tomb in Sweden which was about as old...so there must have been a common Northern European culture back then.

Chances are, if you had grandparents, they may have taught you something and they wouldn't have written it down. I learned a lot from my family and nothing was ever written down. You have a handful of manuals with some pictures and captions and work from there.

Moreover, there was a lot of hostility toward writing. Socrates is a famous case where he argues that writing makes you dumber. The Romans said the Druids felt the same way and refused to write. Moreover, in order to quality to be a bard in early modern Ireland or Scotland, you had to be illiterate.

That's not to say that writing is a bad thing or that Ireland was comparable to Egypt, but there's a wealth of literature out there about BA and IA Europe and you'd be surprised just what they achieved and how advanced they really were. Yes, even us snowniggers.

Archaeologist Joe Fenwick revealed a LiDAR (Light Detecting and Ranging) laser beam had been used to scan the ground surface to create a three-dimensional map, which revealed more than 30 monuments around Tara.


Using another technique -- described as taking an X-ray through the hillside -- archaeologists discovered the huge monument, a ditch stretching six metres wide and three metres deep in the bedrock.

The ditch, circling the Mound of the Hostages passage tomb, separated the outside world from the ceremonial centre of Tara.


It was believed the ancient architects had also surrounded the ditch with a massive wooden structure on each side -- a version of Stonehenge -- on a large scale. Its sheer size meant a whole forest would have had to be cleared to build it.

I have. Most but a few survived that had literally no impact and made their way back to spain. Same in the Hebrides but more survived and stayed there.

The Kingdom of Northumbria was founded BY Anglo-Saxons, as the area didn't have anything close to a stable native briton number since the flight of the Romans.

Northumbria then was attacked by Irish raiders, who then proceeded to take slaves ( including your own patron saint )

However, mainly due to Danish influence, Northumbria and Ireland have had alot of cultural overlap and many clergy fled there when the Normans forced the Catholic reform and destroyed the Irish Catholic faith.

Well. I am a Bong who has studied Irish History. Specifically, I have studied the History of Yorkshire and Northumbria.
