In this case it's because the world is going to become a very different place soon, once oil becomes too expensive and too rare to practically use for fuel. Even coal is only a century away from running out, at best. Western Society has always had a kind of 'King of the Hill', once, it was Spain with their armada, but once it was defeated, England surpassed them handily. Now, it is the United States and its entire lifeblood is based on constant inflation and endless oil.. but oil is not endless. Even shale oil recovery is starting to peak, only a few years after it began.

The number of people is starting to exceed the number of social roles. We just keep up this meaningless cycle of consumerism to keep everyone busy and employed so they can have money, but no one is really accomplishing anyhting important at their jobs anymore as a result. Most of them are just addendums to a computer or machine that does most of the work for them.

You guys don't have redbox?. We have them all over the place where I'm at. Supermarkets, pharmacies. You just pay like a dollar to rent a movie overnight at some close location and return it to any one in the same network. Bluray's are 1.99 I think and games are like 2.99.
