Because they envy their Northern neighbours who defied the Turks and remained a free and largely untainted people. Do remedy their anguish for being ruled by Turks they dish their butthurt onto Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes and God that they're Serbs to degrade these groups. That is why no one calls Serbs anything other than Serbs or Turks. It would be a compliment to call them Orthodox Croats for example.
