When I was at school as a kid I picked German because I found it the easiest language by far. Much easier than French.

Which makes sense because English is a Germanic language. So lots of the words and grammar is strongly similar (not the same of course but similar).

I already speak English and Spanish and if I had to choose a third language to speak, it would be German. How is this evidence of an "awakening"?
