I am a member of my local VFD and can tell you many fires are caused by smoking resulting in wasted resources, both during and after the event.

I have family members who smoke and their clothes and houses reek of it. They are not dirty people, they just smoke about a pack a day indoors. There is a thin layer of nicotine on everything in their house.

I do not know a single person who smokes who is healthy. Alll have breathing problems. And why not? Smoke is a form of ash and they are sucking it into redhot their lungs. I run into burning buildings full of smoke but I have SCA.

Most of our calls are aid related, and all of our repeats are smokers.

I also pick up litter as part of our local adopt-a-road program. Cigarette butts, packages and lighters everywhere. the sooner the tobacco industry is gone the better for everyone else.

Smoking isn't that common in NZ and from my experience pretty looked down upon as degenerate.
