I started a government office job a few months ago, my first office job for some years.

I had a cumulative 4.0 and an undergrad publication from a major state university, well ranked, got a B.S. in comp sci. I'm shy and nerdy okay, but clean, can put on a suit, etc. I didn't actually get many interviews at all, and never heard back from my interviews. I literally got one out of complete desperation when I had less than $5 left in my bank, no food left in the fridge, and nowhere to go, as a dishwasher. Moved up to line cook, it's been about 2 years now I'm ready to drive off a bridge desu. Maybe I had bad luck, but if you don't have personal connections there really is nothing you can do to guarantee yourself a good job. There really is no particular degree, school, or GPA that will give you a golden ticket. If family or friends can get you a job, don't underestimate the value of that offer.
