I remember during the following recess break, I was discussing the implications and possibilities of who committed the attack. I obviously didn't know what I know now, but I knew even at 10 years old that something was fishy about this. Take the school bus home to find my sister and her friend (both in highschool) getting stoned and shooting our dads pellet gun. I remember rushing to my sister to tell her, and she already knew but didn't really grasp what it all meant and didn't care to know what it meant and continued shooting the pellet gun. My next memory following the attacks is aas follows. We had to do "paragraphs of the week" it is what it sounds like. We were handed out subjects to write our paragraphs on but I missed school the day they were handed out so I wrote on my own topic which was about the 911 and the perseverance the states will show. I remember being really proud of it because I genuinely wanted to voice my opinions on the attack and put a lot of effort into it. So I hand it in and days later get it back with a shitty mark because the topic of 911 was not one of the topics handed out but I remember her noting on the first page that it was well written. Fucking wish I still had it. I finish this memory with how I finished my paragraph, GOD BLESS AMERICA. Happy 4th yankee doodles, enjoy your day. I was home sick from school that day. I was 13 living in Seattle, anyone living in the city at the time can tell you that 2000-2001 was a crazy time for the people living there. In December 1999 police found bombs in the car of a Muslim terrorist planning to attack the Space Needle during our New Years millennium celebration and forced the city to shut the event down. We were the only city in the world that didn't have a massive fireworks show or celebration that day. Then Bush got elected which further scared the shit out of all the libs in town. The next year a rather large earthquake (6.9) fucked up some parts of the city pretty bad. Then 9-11 happened and everyone was acting like it was the end days. For me the year was extra shitty, my grandpa died on my 13th birthday and ever since then I've been superstitious about that number. It was a rather jarring transition into my teenage years after an idyllic 90s childhood.
