Democrats, yes, for the most part made a very drastic hard pull to the left.they saw that their old strategy would not work anymore, and decided to change tactics.

In doing so, the Republicans, by staying the same, inherited those voters the Democrats alienated. The party has truly changed little since 1854.

Tired of seeing this. Not true. The Democrats change based on cultural trends, and the reason they went from being libertarian to authoritarian left is just simply cultural.

The reason people think this is because the conservatives have always been slightly authoritarian, mostly right wing. The Democrats used to be libertarian centrist-to-right, but in recent years have been moving to authoritarian left. So it appears to have changed because the libertarians have become Republicans. In reality, they make up a "liberal" right wing that has been left behind by the Democrat party going socialist.
