This is indeed the biggest fucking problem aside from the fact that reunification would buttfuck China and the south economically. There is no stopping such a massive amount of artillery wrecking Seoul, the only way it would be preventable is if China was to launch an all-out attack from the North or an assassination would take place.

The amount of first strikes the US and Seoul would need to conduct are incomprehensible to neutralize all the tubes, barrels and missiles aimed at Seoul. Perhaps they could pull it off, but it would need some serious coordination, infiltration and other special forces fuckery for it to go down.

Artillery would only be used as a forward bombardment to soften defenses before an imminent invasion. Before an artillery attack, we would see troop movement toward the DMZ and a reinforcement of the 4251 corps, giving Seoul citizens close to a week to flee or shelter. Deaths would be in the tens of thousands, but nowhere near as much if the DMZ was constantly lined with a full invasion force (an unsustainable situation).
