That's a correlation vs causation issue. The kinds atheists who become "degenerate" and what have you are the same types of fair-weather and grocery store Christians who either pick and choose which parts of scripture that they want to follow or just do whatever the fuck they want anyway and claim that "Only God can judge".

You're speaking of liberalism. And yes, there is a difference between the two. Atheism itself has no political policies, for all it claims is that there is no higher supernatural power (what most men call God.)
