The "Danzigers" elected the nazi party. There were no poles in Danzig other then a few laborers and a couple of soldiers.

Danzig was not Polish, it was a independent city state under the protection of the league of nations. It was sort of leased to the polish nation because Poland did not possess any developed port city at the time (they were developing Gdynia).

After Gdynia was developed Danzig would, most likely, be returned to Germany, but no, Hitler had to chimp out and forever destroy nationalism in Europe, and give eastern europe to USSR in a silver platter
