Jesus makes a reference to Sirach

>But of these things do not be ashamed,
>lest you sin to save face:
>Of the Law of the Most High and his precepts,
>or of justice that acquits the ungodly;
>Of sharing the expenses of a business or a journey,
>of dividing an inheritance or property;
>Of accuracy of scales and balances,
>of tested measures and weights;
>Of acquiring much or little,
>of bargaining in dealing with a merchant;
>Of constant training of children,
>Of the beating of the sides of a wicked servant
-Sirach

>If the servant sayeth in his heart
>"My lord delayeth his coming"
>and shall begin to beat the servants and maidens
>and eat and drink and be drunken
>The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh for him not.
>and at an hour that is he not aware
>And he will cut him into pieces
>and will appoint his portion with the faithless.
>And that servant which knew his Lord's will
>and did not prepared
>nor commit to his will
>he shall be beaten with many stripes.
>But he that knew not
>and did not commit things worthy of stripes
>he shall be beaten with only a few stripes
>For unto much is given much is required.
Luke 12

indulgences were not obligatory. All that the Roman Catholics said was that it improves a man's generous spirit and he gets the direct benefit of what ever it is spent on. That was always spent on making new Cathedrals and art, and they liked to do it in their own town or region. They would paint their faces on the wall in paintings and indulgences were targeted at the rich not the poor.
>>
>>132268818
That was official teaching on indulgences as far as I know, but I don't doubt for a second that there shlomos that took advantage of this.

For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

Hebrews 12 - Punishing someone is an act of Kindness

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?

“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

I once knew this one girl who came from Italy she told me about her family, they lived out in the country. She told me about how her aunts and grandmothers and great aunts all freaked out when she bought a snake bc they believe that snakes can be vessels for demons. Plenty of Catholics are very much like that, even whites not just Hispanics

Old-Earth Theory
>Earth is old and each 'day' in Genesis is an age, and plants and animals were put onto Earth (or evolved) through divine intervention (doesn't apply to humans depending on who you ask)
>Also includes Gap Theory, where there is a very large gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, and the Earth was made in 6 days

Hello there, lovely christians.
I've got a question regarding Buddhism. I see that you don't see Buddhism as "good" so to speak, because of it's quite atheistic nature - though I wouldn't 100% agree on that. But that's not the point.

My question is regarding meditative practices. After all a prolonged service or night mass is pretty much active meditation. So what would you think about adopting actual meditative practices - as in sitting meditation and the like ? I think it could bring pretty huge benefits in a sense of clearing and refocusing your mind, contemplation of the teachings and so on and so forth.

It depends on what you are meditating on, if you meditate on the mysteries of the Lord and how you can be a better person through him, that's good. However, if you meditate the Buddhist way (clearing your mind and not thinking about anything), demons will infiltrate you because you essentially letting them in

Well, yes - "in principle". But praying and meditation are not exactly the same. Essentially meditation is something where you aren't directing and entertaining your thoughts - and mind for that matter - so that you can reach insights without attachment.
Praying is the "direct your thoughts"-counterpart I'd say.

I think your perception is not 100% accurate. There's no actual buddhist that would want to reach a "clear thoughtless mind". That's not even possible. It's more like I've described here >>132273789. You merely observe your thoughts without messing with them.

Buddhist meditation practice is said to be done to "forget yourself". But that's only half the truth - or better: a false notion. What buddhists meditate for is not to detach themselves from themselves so to speak.
The main issue is to learn to control your mind in order to act compassionate and controlled. That's where the mantras come into play as well.

But other than that, I see your point. So basically if you use it to - say - visualize Jesus and meditate about his teachings, you're totally ok with it ? That's great. I've heard others - protestants actually - that would reject meditation fully, because it's "Indian deviltry". Which made me pretty sad, as they're basically ignoring this pretty much benefiting practice out of shere ignorance.

The Battle Hymn of the Republic:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an alter in the evening dews and damps
I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heal
Since God is marching on"

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me
As he dies to make men holy, let us die to make men free
While God is marching on

You are sending your innocent flock to hell, you must revert or be extinguished .

How do we fix the Church in Northern Europe?

https://www.churchmilitant.com/news/article/belgian-bishops-refuse-to-call-abortion-murder

The Grand Chancellor of this University is a Cardinal. Archbishop Joseph de Kesel.

https://cruxnow.com/global-church/2016/10/11/new-belgian-cardinal-poised-key-papal-ally-europe/

>When asked about his attitude toward homosexuality at a news conference after his appointment, De Kesel said, “I have much respect for gays,” including “their way of living their sexuality.”

https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/brussels-archbishop-deals-potentially-fatal-blow-to-an-uprising-of-vocation

>The fraternity was only 3 years old, but already numbered 6 priests and 21 seminarians - flourishing, by Northern European standards.
>Despite its rapid growth and fruitful work in parishes, in which attendance rose, the fraternity was closed down by the newly instituted bishop, De Kesel. The reason given in a statement was that the majority of the seminarians were French. Since many regions of France have no priests, De Kesel alluded to a move of solidarity with his French brother bishops in not taking away their vocations.

Typical Orthodox if they don't have an answer it's sorta mystical and its a mystery. Everything is a mystery to them. the answer is "god is mysterious" Thomas Aquinas and various other monks and bishops were writing entire libraries to answer everyone's questions.

I'm pretty sure it's way more delicate and nifty than this. Actually it seems to be due to the lack of virtues. After all the West is falling, because "Democracy" is a purely self-sustaining system pleasing the biggest voter groups and since the massive decline in faithfulness and the rise of secularism as state doctrine, the governments/parties have no incentive to work in favor of religious (e.g. christian) groups, except they're exotic minorities and can claim to somehow being """oppressed"""".

I'm not a christian but I believe christianity is a very beneficial factor to a society, if not corrupted and/or marginalized (or better: demonized).
The only reason that the church(es) still have a say in western states is that the last few people that were really faithful haven't die out yet ... which is but a matter of time. You can't take protestants seriously, because even if they are good people - their fait literally screams "imma do what i want and if you don't appreciate that you're a heretic and a devil worshiper".

I recently read "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind," and despite the off-putting title it actually has helped me immensely. Just sitting zazen and clearing my mind has done more than any Catholic reading I've come across.

>In 827, Venetian merchants stole the body of St. Mark the Evangelist from Alexandria in Egypt, where he had served as a bishop before being martyred around 68 AD. Following the relic's transfer to the Rialto, they were solemnly received by the bishop and doge of Venice and subsequently deposited in the ducal chapel.

>In subsequent centuries, many prominent relics of Christ—among them fragments of the True Cross, Christ's Holy Blood, and thorns from the Crown of Thorns—and relics of prominent saints—among them relics of Sts. George, John the Baptist, and Isidore—entered the Church of St. Mark's and were deposited in its treasury. Following the sack of Constantinople in 1204, the facades of San Marco were richly decorated with marble spolia, or spoils, many of which had formerly decorated churches, palaces, and public squares in the imperial city

Syria and Alexandria had long been lost before the fourth crusade. What's their excuse?

And you're convinced that it was just coincidence that who was to become the patriarch of constantinople just happened to be the bishop of constantinople who just so happened had to answer to the Byzantine emperor?

No greedy grab of power there?

The bishop of constantinople was excommunicated. The catholic countries and church has no responsiblity towards them from then on until they repent. Syria and Alexandria chose to follow constantinople. They made a choice. They lived their choice. For them too, catholicism didn't owe them anything anymore.

Antioch fell in the 11th century, and alexandria was taken by the first caliph.
The rise of islam was because of a devastating plague that had decimated Byzantium and persia, and they were recovering from the latest big war. The Jihadists found themselves in exactly the right time and place to mass conquest.
Byzantium held against combined jihad, many times stronger than papal crusades, for hundreds of years, but eventually started to crumble due to trade embargoes from the west, subversion from muslim agents,
After the catholic Latin empire was constructed after the 4rth crusade, it ravaged the populaces and countryside due to its distrust of time tested greek banking procedures leaving it bankrupt and weak.

The remenant states of Byzantium had to sort the mess out for themselves however, and Nycia eventually restored the Empire, but racked up alot of debt in the process.
Next comes the assault of the sultanate of Rum, gobbling up the eastern anatolian land and driving them to the coasts.

Rum then crumbles, but an even stronger foe emerges, the Ottoman Turks.

They forced the Patriarch to submit, or have his people genocided, and to this day, his successors still teach the old faith.

You should be more sympathetic, considering all of your land was controlled by the Umayads for hundreds of years.

The Russian orthodoxy does not submit to islam, but the greek orthodox church submitted to protect its followers, in semblance of how Christ gave his life and dignity to save humanity (just an insight into the thought process).
The pope answers also to the media, and so must use PR stunts to better his image, even at the expense of humiliating his religion.
The patriarchs humiliated their religion to save the lives of the local practitioners of Christianity, not just greek orthodoxy.
They put human life over greed and glory, the pope put greed over reputation.

>HAHAHA if that were true you would have won back your land like the Catholics in Spain. The Romans used to say "the greeks are only fit for slavery"

I would appreciate to not talk with children, the Romans never said that, they said what I quoted about bringing marble to life, and out of spite . Why do you think all Roman statues of a human figure have a shrub or small tree adjacent to keep the statue from falling untill 1500's while Greek ones are just a human form since 500 BC without the need of an edifice ?

>I think Greece reached Ankara in the 1920's before folding, that's deep in Asia Minor.

They still liberated the Helladic peninsula and some of the Balkans. What of all this did your attention span jump over ?

>>132287990
>I explicitly talk about the original seats. I have no interest in discussing others.

What's wrong with Russia ? Are they not Orthodox ? They are the most fervent believers and never bowed to Islam. When St. Andrews cross visited Russia a few years ago ( their baptismal cross) 4 Million believers flocked, ever seen that before ?

>not did, do. to this day.and the point is, the patriarch answers to god and the local islamic leadership.

Nope , wrong, sorry . The milliet (national ) system of islam does not interfere with religion. Simple as that.

>The schismatics surely are not the church of Peter.
Surely the church of Andrew should know better than to claim to be the church of Peter, or better, that the church of Peter doesn't exist and therefore is free to lead itself.

You make many mistakes, the Church of Andrew is Russia's Church. The 'schismatics'. Ok, look . The Church of Peter has been corrupted successively by the Papacy, you might think it's of Peter's but doctrinaly, the 'Orthodox' are Peter's, because the Papacy took it upon itself to turn the original Peter's Church into a political whore . A total disgrace.

Catholics are not the church of Peter, even if they say so.

So Rome is a , new , beast .

Um that's actually false , child. The biggest ships in antiquity , the quinterme were built by Alexander the Great, it took over 2000 years to match them after the 1800's by the English.Who was able to build the Greatest churches for 1000 years ? Byzantium . Why ? because it inherited Rome and Greece. Your lack of knowledge not only shows, but shines.

No, just how you evade a staight answer and unsuccessfully attempt to make a cheap impression shows to my experience that you have no points to make, very Catholic , in a way , don;t you agree ?

Did you know that the reason why all boats in venice have to be black is because the jews kept painting them in GOLD. They got so heavy that they kept sinking, and so they kept filing insurance claims. It got too expensive, among other things

Change of subject little askenatsi ? Typical.

The difference between an Orthodox and a Catholic is the same between a faithful and an imposter.

However the difference between an Orthodox and an askenazi is the same between a faithful and and a middle-class gypsy.

There's no getting through to these people, fellow burger. The Roman Catholic church employs literally tens of thousands of repressed sodomites to spin lies which absolve them of any guilt or recourse to reason and logic.
