Freedom of the press is essential even if sometimes they report on stupid things. If we start censoring the stupid stuff, then it paves the way and sets stare decisis for future censorship.

Trump cannot stop the press from printing. Libel law is run by the state gov't, not the feds. Furthermore there is exstensive caselaw of presidents trying to censor the press. Usually they cannot do it unless the press directly did something illegal to obtain the information (i.e. getting it from someone who did something illegal is fine, but the press could not do it themselves.) The other way to censor from a federal level is national security.
