To an extent, I believe it's the constant non-proof of god that prevent many people of believing in him. We, as people, live on material and tangible wealth. As god is neither tangible nor material we have a hard time believing in him whole-heatedly. That's not to say you shouldn't believe in god, as salvation > eternal damnation.

But then again, what if the true god is Allah, and all the infidels are really being slain?

I was raised with Christianity as a Protestant and always knew Jesus was Lord. What evolved though was my understanding of the gospel and theology, which further strengthened my faith. I've learned how badly the Church has been subverted over the centuries and is highly contaminated by world Jewry.
