Having a "racially pure nation" is essentially the same end result as race mixing. What happens when you have no diversity and it's only white people? You get a major catastrophe that can kill everyone off because your genetics are all so similar your chance of survival becomes minimal. They knew they needed a central focus for germany. It made sense for them to inwardly concern themselves with their own race because that ideal was what they used as their focus to draw their power from. There are many nazis on record explaining that every race should feel this way about themselves, its not about being better, its about believing you are better in order to make yourself improve.

By extension you dont even need a racial element for your focus. Ethnic nationalism worked well at that time and place because it was a pre-existant core value in the old world and the population was already fairly homogeneous apart from certain groups.

You could pick something else to be your focus. Rome wasnt based on race but culture, for example, with romans of many different races existing. Likewise modern japan is highly xenophobic and conservative but there is more than one distinct race of japanese. By no coincidence the nazis and the japanese got along quite well.
