How do we fix the media?

It is blatantly obvious how much of a slant and agenda major news networks have nowadays. Yet they are given special media privileges that allow them into the deepest parts of our government to mettle out the "truth". Yet from the abundant and baseless agenda drive lies there are many stories where the media foregoes their responsibility of finding secure sources just to put out a message suited to their bias.

We need a media that can root through corrupted government but how do we fix media that is more corrupt then the thing it is supposed to be keeping in check?

The problem is the media is trying to adhere to their own very strict code of ethics that are being ignored by major networks. What kind of control do we enact to bring the media back within the realm of trustworthiness and cement their responsibility with trust and peer oversight?
