Yeah it'll likely be talked as one of two factors.

An anti establishment leader who was greatly slandered and who the establishment failed to manipulate.

Or

An anti establishment leader who ended up being manipulated by the establishment nonetheless.

I hope the prior.

Way too early to tell. You never really know how the history books will settle on a president until there is enough time to both emotionally detach from the president to look at their presidency objectively and enough time to look at the legacy of their actions.

For example, even if Obama receives a sympathetic view years from now, he will in no small part be remembered as lacking a lasting positive legacy because Trump is undoing everything he's done.

Likely too early to tell, but I'll give it a shot.

Background:

Historians will conclude that Bush's election in 2000 was a palace coup by a power structure centered around the powerful Bush family. There will be little doubt that Gore should have been awarded Florida. 9/11, viewed as an inciting event to shore support around an illegitimate president, will be probably the next paragraph in the history book. Deep state involvement will be suggested. The ensuing invasion of Iraq will be directly tied to the Bush friendly shareholders of Haliburton, Blackwater, etc. A note may be made here regarding Republicans' aversion to taking on national debt, and their sudden willingness to put it all on the national credit card. This could easily be passed off as standard partisan politics, but it may be viewed in the longer term as an indicator of structural weakening, as a party in power no longer had to face serious criticism from its own side.

We'll come back to the ensuing bankruptcy of America and what it means for war readiness.

The election of Obama after the financial crisis will be seen as too little, too late. Obama himself will be viewed as an establishment candidate, unwilling to institute necessary financial reforms and hindered in governing by the opposition. Despite this, he is able to eke out a second term against a guy named Mitt. (continued)

So history will view the era as one of weakening financial stability for America (even when median purchasing power increased, money velocity is low because of the large amounts of personal debt), while the government is having trouble balancing the budget. The party that instituted the 2000 coup is not helping matters by hobbling the post office, the IRS, and other federal agencies that bring money in. The lack of willingness in the political establishment to take drastic economic measures (you might think gold standard, but I'm thinking more of the government buying and forgiving all personal debt) was echoed in Obama's (and the Democrats as a whole) desire to focus on social justice issues rather than deep cutting problems (e.g. the economy and the prison system).

By the end of Obama's term, even before the election of 2016, it was clear that: 1. the Western world was headed for another financial crisis, 2. Fighting another war would be very hard financially for America, and 3. global warming would make another war inevitable over the next few decades. (substitute a worldwide water shortage if you don't believe in global warming)

The election of Donald Trump, directly against the best efforts of the interconnected academia-media-political system, was a cry from the population against the establishment that would lead them over the brink. Unfortunately, President Trump's campaign was infiltrated from the start by agents of the Israeli Mossad, the Russian FSB, and actors loyal to the political group that had performed the coup of 2012. That Mr. Trump could run against the brother of the coup plotter and still have his administration corrupted by the very swamp he promised to drain is not an indictment of Mr. Trump, although such indictments are quite justified. Rather, by 2016, both parties of the US government had become intertwined with private interests in such a way that any kind of necessary reform was de facto impossible. (continued)

While Trump's election brought hope to many Americans, the writing was on the wall for the international order of the 20th century. The Obama administration's handling of the self-immolation of Mohammed Bouazizi, a Tunisian fruit seller, led to regional destabilization and the 2010s migrant crisis, which led to the exit of Britain from the EU. While America still had a voice in European politics, and still could cooperate militarily with France, their grip on hegemony west of Cairo was slipping.

While this was happening, several separate camps coalesced into pushing the US towards a war which would embroil a region. Trump himself was under investigation for business ties to Russian agents, but pedophile rings operating in government and mercenary groups economically motivated for a war pushed the government towards conflict with China over its treatment of Tibetan nationalists.

Trump had faced pressure from his own party to institute economic measures against the Chinese. Over the winter of 2018, the diplomatic relationship between China and the USA drastically cooled. The president of China, Xi Jinping, had been able to exert considerable political power to force his ministers into line. This came not a moment too soon for him, because he soon had a casus belli. A US special operations was captured alive in Western Chinese territory. The US' escalation of the Tibetan situation, abetted by domestic media, meant that a slight majority of the US public was pro-war for the first time since 2003.

Trump would not survive the ensuing, highly-asymmetrical conflict, passing away in his sleep in late 2018. The war with China robbed the US of many of its overseas imports, leading to a resurgence in domestic production, and a drastic increase in Russian hegemony in Southeast Asia. The Armistice of 2019 would provide, surprisingly, a lasting peace between the two powers, even after the Second Chinese Civil War. (continued)
>>
Trump beat out the Clinton dynasty and the Bush dynasty at the same time. He had the most money spent against him in the history of candidates and he spent the least about of money.
>>
Its been less than a year and basically no Earth-shattering moves have been made, how the fuck should I know

He could get us into World War III tomorrow or he could get impeached or he could squash the Russia thing and live out a mediocre term as President
>>
>>132176576
Today, Trump is viewed as with somewhat mixed feelings not due to his actions while in office, but due to his polarizing style causing a permanent break between the intelligentsia and the working class. This in turn can be seen as one of the most overt signs that the post WW2 order was coming to a close. While he represented a stunning indictment of the political-economic system in 2016, those responsible for that very system were able to shrug off the blow and lead the president into a series of economic recessions and military quagmires.

Trump presided over a diminishing of the US' ability to project power, both military and diplomatic - and his generous funding of the military indicates that this was not intentional - but given the USA's financial state at the time, it is debatable whether a more experienced statesman could have done more than to patch the damage to the Western Order for a few more years.

The extremely blatant interplay between the financial sector and lobbyists in his administration did nothing to prevent the financial crisis of 2017.

Bush will be remembered for 9/11, War on Terror and the Recession.
