The problem with the West and Democracy

The west has one simple problem: the government size and its ruling class. It is inefficient yet it keeps growing and growing in terms of power, money and influence with every new stupid treaty/summit.
It's slowing down the economy by chocking small medium businesses under taxes and a mountain of useless laws, destroying the social balance by trying to replace nations with multicultural wobble to bypass elections; corrupting the media, academia and most of the people with unecessary welfare and it has allowed a private banking system to become its rulere rather than being a lender to businesses.
The only FACT is that no politician, no elites will ever step down and fix the problem. Little by little they'll push people away from wealth and freedom, and towards poverty and slavery to feed themselves.

I'm asking you, is there a practical solution to this? Or the last 70 years of freedom and wealth are but a dream for our species?
