There is so much mineral wealth in the world, you just have to spend the money and have the labor to extract it, as well as the tolerance for total environmental destruction to get it all.

China owns most of the worlds rare earth element production because they are the only ones willing to devote labor and destroy water and land to get it...you basically have to refine dirt, and chemically bleach that dirt to extract the trace elements that exist globally but no one wants to destroy that much water and land to recover it....for example.
