Why would a shooting star go 'upwards' if it is debris falling into the atmosphere. Objects caught in a larger objects gravity fall towards it rather than be pushed away.

You... you do realize that a "shooting star" isn't really a star, right?

I feel like I must be getting trolled into explaining this, but a shooting star is a piece of space junk falling into Earth's gravity and burning up in the atmosphere. You only see them going down, because Earths gravity only pulls them in to the center of the Earth.

You never see them go up because people don't randomly shoot rocks and shit upward into space.

I feel stupid for explaining this, like it should be obvious that I'm getting trolled, but I've seen so many American public school system graduates and other assorted retards on the internet that I never feel sure anymore.
