Basically the yakuza is heavily ethnic korean or crypto korean. But most of these Koreans in Japan are descendants of migrants who came to Japan before the Korean War. Because of Japanese law, they couldn't generally obtain Japanese citizenship so they were technically citizens of Joseon Korea, the last dynasty before the war and the split.
