First off, the figures are possibly from different sources, and just estimates. The museum was likely trying to put together a "look at 6 million less people being here" kind of thing and found sources that went along with it.

Second off, the number of 6 million is just an estimate, it being false or off by <1,000,000 doesn't have that much of an impact on the signifigance of the event as a whole.

It doesn't disprove anything, and at most proves 6 million was innacurate. Also, after a radically anti-semetic party comes into power, the last thing you're going to get is complete honesty about whether or not someone's a Jew, so the former figure could be wildy underestimated.

Therefore, 10.5 WORLDWIDE post ww2 means that the total world population of jews increased by 1 million.

Compare that to 9.5 million being 60% of the world jews pre-war. 9.5/6 then multiply by 10 gives us 15.8333333... total jews worldwide.

In other words, the total world population of jews dropped by 6 million. Surely that can't all be due to the holocaust? Of course, it does throw some of my old beliefs into question....
