Work in a UAW (union) plant for a major auto company. The automation of everything is most prevalent in the auto-industry, but I don't believe the general public understands.

Yes, machines take jobs. Smart machines even more so, but there are 2 major facotrs /pol/ never seems to recognize.
1) Machines fuck up CONSTANTLY, one slipped gear will take all of production down for a solid hour, human workers are needed to fix said fuck-ups, and I'm not just talking skilled tradesman (I'm in training) and engineers, people still have to be around to prevent disasters and make slight fixes all the time to keep things running
2) These machines are FUCKING CRAZY EXPENSIVE, true over time it is technically more cost effective to phase out unskilled labor, in 2017 human workers are a much safer and cost effective bet.
