Not the same dude and not an aircraft engineer, but I'd assume they'll replace blades if anything significant at all gets sucked inside, whether it's birbs, coins, trash, etc. Anything that gets pulled in there is going to hit the blades at incredible speeds and you don't want to take chances when you've got a plane with hundreds of people onboard.
