Cities across a wide area of the central US are seeing record murder-rates this year. Little Rock, Louisville, Des Moines, Columbus, Knoxville, and other cites are exceeding the crack era of the early-90's in terms of the level of violence.

What the hell is going on? Why have murders spiked so much in the past few years in many US cities - all the way to record levels? There is no excuse for this, since criminal forensics and trauma medicine are a lot better than they were during the last spike in the early/mid-90's.
