BRATISLAVA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Unspecified ammunition was stolen from the Slovak Armed Forces' stocks in Western Slovakia, Parliamentary Vice-chairman Andrej Hrnciar and former defense minister Lubomir Galko reported after a parliamentary defense and security committee session on Friday.

"The missing ammunition of six boxes containing hand grenades and one box with reactive anti-tank grenades was stolen. Defense minister Peter Gajdos presented us with a detailed report on what happened, on measures that have been adopted, and how the relevant authorities are proceeding in the case," confirmed Hrnciar, adding that no specifics would be presented before there was a current inventory check of ammunition stocks carried out throughout Slovakia.

Galko stressed that the situation was worse than he initially thought, adding that he was almost certain the ammunition was stolen by someone who had access to the stocks.

After reading through some of the related articles...Terrorists arming themselves (or being armed by someone else) this way for attacks in Europe doesn't make sense. I have a hard time imagining a reason for them to sit on this kind of hardware for very long without using it, and some of these articles go back a few years.

It might make more sense if someone is stealing weapons, and particularly explosives, for the purpose of smuggling them to distant places where such things are used more frequently. Perhaps it might make a good return cargo for migrant smuggling ships, for instance.

Here in Canada we have an armory in a fair number of cities and small towns. It's basically a re-enforced concrete or brick bunker filled with C7's and grenades, sometimes the odd LAVIII parked out back with some transport/refueling rigs. No body pays any attention to them, a well planned and determined militia could easily empty one. That said, in my small town, 3 cracked out niggers could jack the place before the local OPP could get his ass out of Tim Hortons
