He rose to become the most powerful figure in one of the most cutthroat and unforgiving political arenas in the world. Kremlinology is still a topic that is alien to most political scientists, precisely because of how terrifying and brutal it is to outsiders. Even the Clinton/Bush establishment here in the states has nothing on the former KGB agents who run post-soviet Russia.
