>Aleksandra Sojda: - Daily reports of attacks on foreigners in Poland appear. Xenophobia and racism are so commonplace?

>Konrad Dulkowski, coordinator of the Center for Monitoring Racial and Xenophobic Behaviors: - Every day we receive from 30 to 100 notices. We get tons of mails we can not keep up with. We are forced to look for volunteers and profane our actions, because growth is huge, both qualitative and quantitative. When we started off with Rafal Gawel four years ago with the activity of the Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behaviors, the reports we received were incidents that nobody would even bend over at the moment.


>So then, four years ago, there was a lack of firm response from society and power, which now brings such an effect?

>In fact, four years ago, there were some social mechanisms that no one paid attention to. This is the effect of allowing these minor incidents such as bad comment, vulgar inscription on the wall, insulting sticker or irrelevant comments directed at foreign trips. All seemed to be little things that need not be bothered very much, and if so, then organized criminal groups that have grown on the basis of racism as a cohesive ideology should be pursued.


>What relationship has this sudden increase in violence against foreigners with the government's anti-immigration policy? It is also said that the aggression of Poles is motivated by fear of terrorist attacks.

>From my point of view, external factors play only the role of catalysts. Xenophobia is strongly encoded in us, one of the atavistic feelings that explodes when a stranger appears, perceived by us as a potential threat. When PiS comes to power, there is a huge increase in the quality of violence.

>Who are the attackers?

>As far as physical attacks are concerned, they are mostly non-educated people who will always find a reason for aggression. Now, in addition, these people are ideologically motivated against all "other". Because it is not that attacks are directed only against Muslims or other foreigners, they are aimed at all.

>This week I read a letter from a Pole from Grandfather Grandfather who has black hair. He wrote that on average twice a week it happens that somebody wants to beat him up because they do not want to fuck him out of the store. Due to the lack of Muslims in Poland, attacks on the so-called " lefties. Today, left-wing can be anyone who does not have enough radical right-wing views, as witnessed recently when the All-Polish Youth attacked the CODE manifestation.

>Are the services responding properly?

>With the services it is necessary to force them to act. It is common practice not to accept a report if the reported event is not broadcast by the media. You usually have to appeal the refusal to initiate the proceedings, to file a complaint. When the matter goes to court, we do not worry anymore because the courts usually make fair decisions.

>I think so. I do not think anything has changed in the near future. Some sociological theories say that there must be some sort of solstice to reverse the trend by 180 degrees. In my opinion this will not happen soon. We are ethnically homogeneous nation, and probably we will remain pretty long enough. Unless economic conditions force us to accept a group of immigrants.
