The internet wasn't really in its infancy of what it is now until the mid 90's, probably with the advent of AOL 3.0 is when it really took off. I can remember being fucking addicted to that "You've got mail" soundbite. I would literally get slight highs just hearing the modem noise connecting through AOL.
