Old Testament is history and forshadowing of things to come. You gotta know it because you need to know where you have come from.

As to the law,

Read Romans 4:13-25. Paul talks about the Law and how it relate to faith, or better yet how the law is triumphed by faith. Then you can stop taking "the Law" of the Old Testament so literally and using it as a hammer to beat the heads of nice christians. It's faith that is important anon.
