Oh yeah, for sure. I sold my first upper (slick sides 5.56) to my buddy, but that was a sub $350 gun with a few little upgrades here and there, then given a storm trooper white paint job. My 80% is a little janky, the safety selector is very lose, but the detents still keep it from slipping out of safety so I haven't had an issue with it. Still shoots right tho. You really can't fuck up an 80%. You have to really REALLY try.

The thing is you need special training to use a rifle or shotgun at close range in tight spaces. You Cannot afford to shoulder it. So you need to get gud at being able to shoot from the hip like they do in games/movies. At close range this is manageable, out to 15 yards.

It has to become muscle memory though, just like shooting old fashioned longbow, so that you know where its pointed even if you cant exactly line up the sights.

It will also keep anybody from fucking with having the weapon extended if you get surprised.

Id suggest practice at the range using a laser sight so you can get the feel down. Then start doing it without so you can refine your practice.

Also for home defense #4 Buck is best. It is the least likely buckshot to penetrate and it's usually got over 20 pellets.
